Artists' Bios

MICHAEL SCHLITT (playwright, performer) is a founding member of the Actors' Gang Theatre and co-recipient of the Los Angeles Drama Critics' Circle's Margaret Harford Award for outstanding contribution to L.A. theatre. Since 1983, he has worked on over 40 productions with the Gang, writing and performing two solo pieces Mike's Incredible Indian Adventure (Winner- NY Fringe Festival Outstanding Solo Show 2006) and Drive, He Said; directing the American premiere of George Tabori's Mein Kampf, co-writing and directing Little Man in the Box (included in LA Times' Top Ten Plays of 1997), developing and directing two separate productions of Klub, (Best Revival 2008 from the L.A. Weekly). Mike has made short films for Epic Records In the Studio with Tenacious D, FXM Network Joe's Gyro Palace and Sony Pictures Studio Head. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife and daughter, and works in the oxymoronic field of "Creative Marketing".


NANCY KEYSTONE (director) is a theatre director/playwright/designer, and visual artist. She is the 2003 recipient of TCG's prestigious Alan Schneider Director Award, and was named one of the "Faces to Watch in 2005" by the L.A. Times. She is the founder and Artistic Director of Critical Mass Performance Group, whose latest multi-disciplinary piece Apollo [Parts 1, 2 & 3] received its World Premiere in January at Portland Center Stage . Apollo [Part 1]: Lebensraum was named one of the "Top Ten Plays of 2005," (LA Alternative Press); and "Pick of the Week," (L.A. Weekly). In 2000, with Critical Mass, she created and directed The Akhmatova Project. A movement-based piece, inspired by the life and writing of Russian poet, Anna Akhmatova, it was named one of the "Ten Best Productions"for 2000 by the L.A. Times, and garnered four L.A. Weekly nominations including Production of the Year. She has also directed and designed award-winning productions at Actor's Express (Atlanta), Portland Center Stage (Oregon), THe Theatre @ Boston Court, Georgia Shakespeare Festival, San Francisco Shakespeare Festival, Long Beach Opera, Musica Angelica,and was Resident Director for The Continuum in Los Angeles. She is the recipient of fellowships from the Drama League of New York, TCG/Pew Charitable Trusts, and the California Community Foundation. A frequent visiting professor at UCLA and Cal State LA, she is also an instructor in arts-in-education programs nationwide.
